As one of Canada's official languages, French holds significant global importance as an international language. Our French studies program delivers a comprehensive, adaptable exploration of both the language and its diverse cultural contexts. Students gain valuable skills for careers in education, media, translation, publishing, public service, and academic research. In Canada's employment landscape, French proficiency offers a competitive advantage. Our department provides a cohesive program combining language instruction, linguistic studies, literary analysis, and cultural exploration, with French as the primary language of instruction.
Students can choose between two specialist programs (French Language and Linguistics or French Language and Literature), three major concentrations (French Language Learning, French Language and Linguistics, or French Language and Literature), and two minor options (French Language or French Studies).
