The Environmental Management programs (Specialist, Major, Minor, Sustainability Minor, Environmental Law and Policy Minor, and Combined MScSM) explore the intersection of environment, society, and public policy. The foundational second-year course, ENV201H5 Environmental and Resource Management, introduces students to the political and socioeconomic dimensions of environmental governance. Learners can then cultivate expertise in areas like resource management, environmental assessment, and the societal, economic, and policy dimensions of ecological change.
Students may pursue a Social Science-oriented track (with courses such as Environmental Politics in Canada, Sociology of the Environment, or The Environment: Perspectives from Economics and Ecology) or opt for a Humanities-focused approach (including Environmental Ethics, Canadian Environmental History, or Literature and the Environment). Hands-on learning and research form integral components across all Environmental Management programs.
All pathways require fundamental Science coursework. Similar to Environmental Science programs, ENV100Y5 The Environment serves as the core introductory Science course for Environmental Management. This reflects the principle that future environmental policymakers and leaders need grounding in natural sciences. Students uncertain about their academic direction should consult Program Advisors and Academic Counsellors regularly for guidance.
Students from different countries should have qualifications equivalent to Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Six 4U/M courses, including:
