Our graduate students in Electrical and Computer Engineering are recognized for their creativity and analytical skills, with students contributing to about 90% of our department's annual invention disclosures. Many receive prestigious awards from organizations like NSERC and CIHR. In the previous year, research-focused students secured over $12.5 million in funding, while our favorable 8:1 student-to-faculty ratio fosters strong mentorship connections. Graduates excel across diverse sectors including engineering, business, healthcare, and law.
The PhD program enables students to achieve specialized expertise in their chosen discipline, requiring original contributions to their field. Alongside faculty-supervised research, candidates complete coursework and a qualifying exam, typically finishing within four years with departmental financial support. PhD candidates are encouraged to publish in top-tier international journals and conferences.
