This four-year doctoral initiative, the PhD in Architecture, Landscape, and Design, fulfills a growing demand for specialized research in design fields, preparing graduates for academic careers as well as leadership roles across various sectors including cultural institutions, non-profits, government agencies, financial services, and consumer markets. As a research-intensive program, it seeks to expand scholarly inquiry beyond the confines of traditional design disciplines covered in the Faculty's professional master's degrees. Students will develop research-driven approaches that bridge disciplinary divides, equipping them to spearhead innovative dialogues that extend beyond conventional design practice boundaries.
An appropriate master's degree with an average grade of at least A–. A professional degree in a design discipline is highly desirable, but applicants with a master’s degree in a related discipline in the humanities and social sciences may be considered. An additional specialized program of study may be proposed for successful applicants without professional training.
Applicants whose primary language is not English and who graduated from a university where the language of instruction and examination was not English must demonstrate proficiency in English.
