For decades, the Orchestral Training Program has been a cornerstone of musical education at UofT, inspiring similar initiatives nationwide. Students receive instruction from principal players of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Canadian Opera Company Orchestra, and other top-tier professional ensembles through vital institutional collaborations. Our performance groups encompass the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra (UTSO), University of Toronto Chamber Orchestra (UTCO), University of Toronto Wind Ensemble (UTWE), and University of Toronto Wind Symphony (UTWS). The program also features specialized ensembles like the Collegium Musicum for Early Music and the gamUT Contemporary Ensemble for Modern Music. Beyond large ensembles, we offer an extensive chamber music curriculum covering solo repertoire with piano, instrument-specific groups, and diverse combinations including piano trios, string quartets, brass quintets, woodwind quintets, and double-wind octets.
