The Faculty of Music provides two undergraduate programs: the Bachelor of Music (Mus.Bac.) and the Bachelor of Music in Performance (Mus.Bac.Perf.). Performance majors start their specialized training immediately in their first year, while students in the general Bachelor of Music program (excluding Music Education in Classical & Jazz, Composition, and Comprehensive-Jazz) complete a Common Year. This foundational year allows them to fulfill core requirements while exploring potential specializations in History & Theory or Comprehensive studies. Those interested in Music Education (Classical) or Composition may choose to delay their concentration until Year 2 after completing the Common Year. Every student must complete fundamental music courses covering history, theory, and performance, creating a shared academic foundation for all music students.
The Performance program cultivates skilled and innovative musicians. Admission requires demonstrated talent in a performance area and potential for artistic development. We strive to develop versatile performers who honor musical traditions while exploring new artistic possibilities. The curriculum focuses on private lessons, masterclasses with faculty and visiting artists, ensemble participation, and diverse performance electives. Students gain experience through solo recitals, chamber music, and specialized courses in performance practice, pedagogy, languages, world music, conducting, jazz, professional skills, and music business. This comprehensive training prepares graduates for advanced study and various music careers.
