The University of Saskatchewan's graduate music programs provide students with focused mentorship from accomplished scholars and performers specializing in piano, collaborative piano, vocal studies, strings, brass, and woodwind instruments. Our conducting curriculum offers specialized tracks in either choral or instrumental conducting, tailored to each student's aspirations. Musicology and theory studies primarily explore classical works from the 18th to 20th centuries, with potential for customized academic paths through consultation with our graduate committee. Details regarding the Master of Music in Music Education can be found here.
All programs conclude with a discipline-specific final project, recital, or thesis. The graduate committee designs individualized course plans to enhance each student's primary field of study.
Substantial scholarship opportunities exist, granted based on demonstrated excellence and future promise in the chosen specialization. Teaching assistantships are awarded to candidates who exhibit strong instructional abilities.
The Music Department provides Master of Music (M.Mus.) degrees in performance, conducting, and theory, along with a Master of Arts (M.A.) in musicology.
Performance-focused M.Mus. degrees are offered for piano (including collaborative piano), voice, strings, brass, and woodwinds. The conducting M.Mus. features concentrations in either choral or wind ensemble direction. This 24-credit program centers on practical work, culminating in a final performance showcase within the student's specialization.
