Environmental biologists investigate ecosystems, concentrating on the relationships between living organisms and their surroundings. This program addresses pressing societal challenges including conservation efforts and pollution concerns.
Students explore fundamental environmental biology principles and ecological concepts while examining current environmental problems. Key focus areas include biodiversity preservation, conservation strategies, ecological systems from genetic to landscape scales, pollution impacts, and applied ecological practices.
Practical learning opportunities
The capstone course involves collaborative projects with off-campus organizations, offering real-world experience. Students also develop hands-on skills through laboratory work and field studies.
Our location provides easy access to the scenic South Saskatchewan River. Diverse ecosystems like short-grass prairies, aspen woodlands, boreal forests, and aquatic habitats are just a short trip from Saskatoon.
As a leading Canadian research institution, the University of Saskatchewan offers exceptional research facilities available to students. These include the Canadian Light Source synchrotron, the Toxicology Centre, and one of the world's most extensive phytotron plant growth facilities.
Weekly seminars bring distinguished researchers from North America and our university to share their findings, with dedicated Q&A sessions for student participation.

Required high school classes
Foundations of Mathematics 30 or Pre-Calculus 30
Students entering the Bachelor of Arts program, or who are undecided about which program they are interested in, are encouraged to take Foundations of Mathematics 30. Students interested in the Bachelor of Science program are encouraged to take Pre-Calculus 30.
