Since 1992, UPEI's Bachelor of Nursing program has cultivated an engaging learning atmosphere that equips future nurses to become thoughtful practitioners, advocates, educators, and leaders rooted in primary healthcare principles.
The Nursing Faculty's curriculum builds upon Primary Health Care foundations, which the World Health Organization (1978) describes as "fundamental healthcare made available to all individuals and families through community-based approaches they find suitable, involving their active engagement at sustainable costs." This program aims to train nurses to work in alignment with Primary Health Care philosophies.
Consistent with Primary Health Care fundamentals, nurses work alongside patients, healthcare professionals, and community members to enhance wellbeing. Their responsibilities span from providing direct patient care to shaping health policies, encompassing roles as caregivers, advocates, educators, researchers, and program designers.
