The Department of Modern Languages offers students the chance to explore multiple languages while gaining a solid foundation in each. It approaches language learning within their cultural frameworks, viewing language acquisition as a gateway to understanding associated thoughts, histories, literatures, films, and more. These studies prepare students for graduate programs, teaching careers, international travel, or overseas employment. They enrich university education through diverse teaching methods that bring variety and balance to academic pursuits.
World markets vie for dominance across Europe (centered on Germany), the Americas (both North and South), and Asia (led by Japan). Prince Edward Island is deeply connected to this global commercial competition. Language study also helps address gaps in students' understanding of English complexities and fundamentals to different extents.
Successful completion of Grade 12 examinations in a University Preparatory Program with an overall average of at least 70% (75% for Quebec Secondary V students)or equivalent to high school.
