Representing Canada's dual-language and three-part legal framework (civil law, common law, and Indigenous law), along with its position in the nation's capital, the Faculty of Law provides advanced degree programs culminating in a Master's or PhD in Law.
The law graduate programs result from collaboration between the Common Law and Civil Law departments. We accept graduates from both legal traditions and from international jurisdictions. Instruction occurs in English or French, with some bilingual offerings. Students can easily pursue their advanced legal education while gaining exposure to Canada's diverse legal systems and language practices.
These programs are available in English and French, occasionally blending both languages. Following University of Ottawa guidelines, students may complete exams, coursework, and research papers or theses in either official language. The programs adhere to the standard graduate studies regulations.
