The School of Information Studies, part of the Faculty of Arts, provides graduate programs including an Information Management diploma and a Master of Information Studies (MIS).
Students pursuing the Master of Information Studies degree, whether full-time or part-time, must take six mandatory core courses during their initial year, followed by a capstone course in their final semester.
The MIS program features three pathways to fulfill degree requirements: coursework, thesis research, or a cooperative education track. Note that the co-op option is exclusive to full-time students, with limited annual placements available. Regardless of the chosen path, at least 25% of coursework must be completed in a secondary language.
MIS graduates qualify for diverse professional roles such as controlled vocabulary experts, digital archivists, information system designers, knowledge management consultants, library administrators, metadata coordinators, data privacy officers, records management specialists, and web content strategists, among other rewarding positions.
Admission to the graduate programs in Information Studies is governed by the general regulations in effect for graduate studies. Applicants must have a four year bachelor’s degree with a minimum cumulative average of 70% (B) calculated in accordance with graduate studies guidelines.
