The Teacher Education program provides a full-time Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree that qualifies graduates for Ontario College of Teachers certification in English-language schools. This program prepares educators to become thoughtful, skilled professionals who can collaborate effectively within their communities.
The BEd program covers three specialization levels: primary/junior (kindergarten to grade 6), junior/intermediate (grades 4-10), and intermediate/senior (grades 7-12). Across all divisions, students examine educational theories, research methodologies, and contemporary teaching techniques. Practical experiences through field studies and practicums allow students to connect theoretical knowledge with classroom application while developing their professional identity.The Ontario College of Teachers oversees teacher licensing and professional standards. Applicants must verify that their prior degree meets the College's requirements for BEd admission. The University of Ottawa's role is limited to ensuring applicants satisfy the program's specific admission criteria.

Undergraduate university degree
Must be accredited by a body, such as a provincial ministry of education, or a ministry of higher education and scientific research or of national education, that has the authority to approve a university degree. Your program must have been accredited at the time you graduated.
In Canada: a university degree of at least 90 credits (or 15 credits if the university uses a 0.5 and 1.0 credit-weight system per course) or a four-year honours bachelor at an Ontario college
Abroad: a university degree of at least 180 ECTS in the same program (e.g., licentiate, engineering degree).

Studies in Canada: at least 70% in your best 10 full-year or 20 one-term undergraduate university courses completed by September 1 of the year before you enrol. Courses completed after September 1 are not recalculated once available in January or April. If you are refused, you will need to improve your marks before you reapply. Courses required to satisfy a teaching subject are not included in the calculation if they are not in the top 20. However, if you have completed less than 20 courses, all those completed by that date are calculated. College, CEGEP and graduate studies are not included.
Studies abroad: at least 70%, based on your undergraduate university annual grade point average (for example, 11/20, pass or satisfactory)
TOEFL- Internet-based test with a minimum of 24 in each of the four skills
IELTS- minimum of 7.0 in each of the four skills
