The Master of Natural Resources and Environmental Studies (MNRES) program bridges the gap between resource management and environmental concerns through an interdisciplinary lens. It combines scientific foundations with social science viewpoints, along with strategic planning and resource management approaches. This program welcomes students from varied academic backgrounds who are eager to explore beyond conventional subject boundaries.

As one of three graduate pathways in the Natural Resources and Environmental Studies Program (alongside the MA and MSc), the MNRES uniquely embodies the faculty's cross-disciplinary vision. Three key elements guide a student's choice of the MNRES: 1) prior academic experience; 2) elective coursework completed at UNBC; and 3) selected thesis focus. The program offers adaptable research opportunities across social, planned, or natural environments through an integrated academic framework.

Students typically complete the MNRES within two academic years, though the supervisory committee may adjust this timeline based on individual research requirements and educational objectives.
