The Nisga’a Studies Certificate provides a focused curriculum for those interested in First Nations education, specifically centered on the Nisga’a Nation. To earn this credential, students must complete 10 courses totaling 30 credit hours. This program particularly appeals to individuals of Nisga’a heritage, other Indigenous peoples, and professionals collaborating with Indigenous communities. It serves as an excellent complement to various majors including First Nations Studies, Anthropology, History, English, Environmental Studies, Forestry, Geography, Nursing and Community Health, Political Science, Psychology, Social Work, and Women’s Studies.
The certificate program is primarily delivered through WWNI, with First Nations Studies emphasizing distance learning options where feasible. Students in Prince George or regional locations may complete the certificate through a mix of in-person and online courses.
All students must develop their academic plan in consultation with and approval from the First Nations Studies Department Chair.
