The Physics Honours Program provides students with advanced physics education and hands-on research experience, preparing them for graduate studies in physics or similar disciplines. Honours candidates must fulfill all BSc in Physics (Major) requirements, plus complete at least 3 credit hours of PHYS 402 and submit an approved undergraduate thesis or research project under faculty guidance.

This degree creates pathways to careers and further education in research, teaching, industrial applications, healthcare technology, and environmental sciences.

During your initial two years, you'll study:

classical mechanics, wave phenomena, thermodynamics, electromagnetism
contemporary physics including quantum theory and relativity with practical applications
essential mathematics and programming skills

The program also offers combined degree options, allowing you to pair Physics with Mathematics, Chemistry, Computer Science, or another complementary field.

The BSc Honours in Physics includes supervised research components specifically designed to prepare students for advanced academic pursuits in physics and related areas.

Qualification Requirements

International secondary and post-secondary credentials are considered. International students must meet the equivalent of the criteria outlined for high school admission and university transfer in British Columbia. Admission is based on the comparison of standards for credentials and grading in the country of origin. Applicants whose first language is not English must be able to demonstrate an acceptable level of proficiency in English.
For admission from a GCE system (or equivalent) a minimum of two Advanced (A) level subjects and three Ordinary (O) level subjects must be completed with an overall GPA of C or higher in order to be considered for admission. All A level subjects presented for admission must have a grade of at least C. Students may substitute two Advanced Subsidiary (AS) level subjects for one A level.
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 90 or higher in the internet-based test, with not less than 20 in each of the Reading, Listening, Writing or Speaking components, score of at least 230 in the computer-based test or at least 570 in the paper-based test,
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Academic score of at least 6.5 overall, with not less than 6.0 in any of the four modules
Duolingo English Test score of 105 or higher
MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery) score of at least 80, with a minimum of 3 on the Speaking Rating Scale
