UNB's prestigious English graduate programs provide both creative writing and academic tracks, enabling students to fulfill their artistic and analytical aspirations. The academic MA and PhD options now feature a specialization in Gender and Sexuality in Literature. Our intimate class settings foster a welcoming atmosphere where students receive individualized guidance and constructive critiques from distinguished faculty members. They collaborate on research initiatives, creative endeavors, and department publications such as The Fiddlehead (Canada's longest-running literary journal) and QWERTY (a nationally recognized student-led literary publication).

Our serene, compact campus offers an ideal setting for creative writers crafting book-length works. The PhD in Creative Writing remains one of Canada's rare offerings. Academic track students engage with significant literary works, conduct innovative research, and expand their critical terminology, supported by outstanding library collections. English graduate students cultivate advanced research, writing, editing, and communication abilities while establishing professional networks with scholars, authors, and publications nationwide.
