Our alumni typically pursue careers in mineral exploration, petroleum industries, geosciences, geophysics, environmental consulting, government natural resource research, and academia. The department usually supports 30-40 students who collaborate with research-focused faculty members maintaining strong connections with provincial (NB-DNR) and federal (GSC) geological survey organizations.
A distinctive aspect of our program is providing hands-on field research opportunities across Canada. Students utilize advanced laboratory resources including Laser Ablation ICP-MS systems, geochemical and spectroscopic analysis tools, geophysical instruments and software, electron and optical microscopes, experimental petrology setups, and sample/thin section preparation labs (UNB Earth Sciences operates one of Canada's premier thin section preparation facilities).
