Established in 1854, UNB's Civil Engineering department boasts a distinguished legacy. Our graduate program has equipped countless students with the vital engineering expertise needed to design, develop, and oversee critical infrastructure for contemporary communities.
Whether it's transportation networks, structural systems, water purification facilities, or sustainable construction, UNB prepares graduates for rewarding careers with engineering firms, non-governmental organizations, government bodies at all levels, and global academic and research institutions.
The PhD program focuses on advanced research, requiring an original thesis that contributes meaningfully to civil engineering. Applicants typically need an engineering or applied science graduate degree. PhD candidates must sustain excellent academic performance and successfully complete a Comprehensive Examination within their first year, evaluated by their doctoral committee.
Program Length (full-time): 1-2 years (MEng); 2 years (MScE); 3-4 years (PhD).
Start Dates: Fall and Winter terms for MEng; Fall, Winter, and Summer for MScE and PhD.
