Geological Engineers investigate, safeguard, and sustainably utilize the planet's water, mineral, and energy reserves. They also guarantee that infrastructure projects account for geological factors and potential risks to achieve enduring stability and security. The University of New Brunswick provides a four-year Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree in Geological Engineering.
UNB stands as Atlantic Canada's sole provider of geological engineering education. This collaborative program between the Earth Sciences and Civil Engineering Departments allows students to concentrate on one of three specialized tracks: geoenvironmental studies, geotechnical applications, or mineral resource management. With limited class sizes, students benefit from personalized guidance and chances to engage in pioneering research. The curriculum also leverages New Brunswick's remarkable geological variety to deliver practical, experiential education.
Practical education
The degree requires students to attend three field schools. They can also join two financially supported excursions to globally renowned geological sites. Each academic year includes a design course, building toward a comprehensive team design project in the final year. Students have the option to incorporate the Engineering Co-op Program into their studies.
