The Bachelor of Health is a four-year multidisciplinary program that explores every dimension of health. Participants gain essential knowledge and competencies for thriving in diverse healthcare careers. This program also serves as excellent groundwork for advanced professional or graduate education. Every student undertakes foundational courses examining biological and social health determinants, contemporary health challenges, healthcare policies, service administration, research methodologies, and data interpretation.
Beyond the mandatory Health curriculum each year, Health and Society Majors pursue specialized coursework that deepens their expertise in health policy analysis; enhances their comprehension of how socioeconomic factors like income, education, and geography impact individual and community health; and strengthens their social science research and communication abilities.
Health encompasses more than just disease prevention—it represents complete physical, mental, and social wellness. How can we foster this holistic well-being across all societal groups? Our communities confront substantial health obstacles. In Canada, healthcare consumes the largest portion of provincial budgets, yet many citizens still face inadequate access to services—enduring lengthy emergency room waits or delays for addiction treatment. Meanwhile, Canada's aging population and rising rates of obesity and chronic illnesses are intensifying demands on the healthcare system.
Indigenous males in Canada experience a life expectancy ten years shorter than non-Indigenous males. What drives this disparity, and how can we address such health inequities? While studies confirm regular physical activity prevents numerous health issues, many individuals remain inactive. What barriers prevent behavior change, and how can we encourage healthier lifestyles? Ultimately, how do we create communities that actively support every resident's health and wellness?
