Linguistics programs explore the connections between cognition, the brain, and human language. Through linguistic studies, you'll develop expertise in analyzing foreign languages and the challenges non-native speakers face with English and French.
These courses enhance degree paths in Education, English, Modern Languages, Psychology, Philosophy, Social Sciences, and Computer Science. Linguistics serves as a core requirement for Speech Pathology, TESL certification, and various language processing and computational linguistics fields.
The curriculum equips learners with fundamental principles that underpin linguistic theory, covering:
Core grammatical components (sound systems, sentence structure, meaning).
How thought processes interact with language (cognitive linguistics).
Neural foundations of grammatical knowledge (generative syntax).
Cognitive mechanisms in first and second language learning.
