Mastering French opens doors to exciting career prospects while fostering an appreciation for culture, creativity, and self-expression. The French Department invites students to develop language proficiency and delve into literary and linguistic studies. Our curriculum features diverse offerings in French Canadian literature, film, and cultural studies, with special focus on Acadian and Québécois authors alongside other Francophone traditions (including those from France, Belgium, and beyond). Linguistics courses examine regional variations across French Canada while investigating how language influences human communication and perception.
Practical experience opportunities
As New Brunswick is Canada's sole officially bilingual province, students gain access to valuable work and volunteer placements in francophone institutions like schools, libraries, community organizations, and healthcare initiatives.
