The Department of Physics and Astronomy provides graduate-level physics programs concentrating on modern experimental and theoretical research areas. Utilize cutting-edge facilities
Students can also work with global research institutions including: TRIUMF (Canada's premier subatomic physics facility), Compute Canada, the national high-performance computing network, along with U.S.-based Jefferson National Laboratory and Argonne National Laboratory.
Founded in 1904, our department ranks among the Faculty of Science's most historic units. As a mid-sized, research-focused department, our 24 full-time faculty members hold leadership positions in key organizations like the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP), NATO's scientific division, and Canadian institutions including NSERC and the Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP).
The following are the minimum requirements to be considered for entry into the Physics and Astronomy (MSc) program.
To be considered for admission into the Physics and Astronomy (MSc) program, you must have:
A four-year Bachelor's degree (Honours) in Physics and Astronomy, Mathematics and Physics or Engineering Physics.
English language proficiency
IAEP (Intensive Academic English Program) - Pass Level 5/AEPUCE (Academic English Program for University and College Entrance) with a minimum of 65% overall
IELTS (Academic module) (International English Language Testing System) - 6.5 overall
Internet-based TOEFL - Overall score of 86 (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking - 20)
Pearson Test of English Academic - 61 overall
Cambridge Assessment of English at the C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency level - Minimum score of 180
