Skilled community health experts are increasingly sought after by health authorities at all levels, from local to federal. The Community Health Sciences (MSc) program offers interdisciplinary training in population health principles and methodologies, preparing students for careers in public health, preventive medicine, and population health management. The curriculum covers essential topics including epidemiology, biostatistics, and health-related social sciences.
In 1987, the integration of the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine (SPM) and the Division of Community and Northern Medicine (CNM) established the Department of Community Health Sciences. This merger brought together diverse expertise, fostering a dynamic department recognized nationally for outstanding education, research, and community engagement.
The Department of Community Health Sciences is committed to generating, preserving, and sharing knowledge about population health to enhance the physical, mental, cultural, social, and economic welfare of communities in Manitoba, across Canada, and globally.
