Genetics explores the study of heredity and how traits are passed down through generations. The Genetics curriculum covers three core disciplines: classical genetics, population genetics, and molecular genetics. Learners will examine breakthroughs in medical science, farming methods, inherited intelligence, GMOs, genetic counseling, and therapeutic gene editing.
The Faculty of Science provides various Bachelor of Science degree options in Genetics. These interdisciplinary programs are collaboratively administered by the Biological Sciences and Microbiology departments. Graduates with an undergraduate Genetics degree can pursue advanced studies in diverse fields such as Biological Sciences and Microbiology.

Qualification Requirements

To declare the BSc Major or Honours in Genetics, you first must be accepted into the Faculty of Science. The following are the minimum requirements for entry into the Faculty of Science.

Direct entry means you are applying to the program directly out of high school or have completed fewer than 24 credit hours at a recognized university or college.

Advanced entry Applicants are those who have completed one year (24 credit hours) or more of studies in another faculty at the University of Manitoba or another recognized post-secondary institution.

IELTS (Academic - computer or paper) or IELTS Indicator: Minimum score required: 6.5 overall; Minimum score of 6.0 in each of the four modules (listening, reading, speaking, writing); and IELTS One Skill Retake results are accepted by the Undergraduate Admissions Office, University of Manitoba
