Indigenous Studies (previously known as Native Studies) explores the diverse cultural heritage of Canada's First Peoples through an interdisciplinary lens, encompassing history, arts, governance systems, literary works, linguistic traditions, and spiritual practices. Learners can opt to focus on Indigenous language studies, specializing in either Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe) or Cree through a minor program. BA Advanced Degree: This 120-credit program requires maintaining a 2.0 GPA across all mandatory faculty courses. Participants design their academic path by selecting either a major-minor combination or pursuing dual majors instead of a minor. The advanced curriculum provides broad foundational knowledge while allowing focused study in a chosen discipline via the major.
Exceptional performers in the advanced major program may qualify for graduate-level admissions. This degree structure also accommodates undergraduates wishing to incorporate international study opportunities during their academic journey.
To obtain a BA Advanced degree, candidates must fulfill 120 credit hours while maintaining a minimum 2.0 GPA in all required faculty courses. The program mandates completion of at least 48 credits in a primary discipline, complemented by a secondary concentration comprising no fewer than 18 credits. Alternatively, students may undertake two advanced majors as a substitute for the minor requirement.
The following are minimum requirements for entry into the Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Studies program. Meeting these requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program.
Direct entry means you are applying to the program directly out of high school.
Advanced entry option is open to students who have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours of university level study and have attained a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
