The Department of Indigenous Studies provides a Master of Arts (MA) program focused on Indigenous Studies. This interdisciplinary field critically examines history, arts, legal systems, philosophy, linguistics, and more, exploring themes of decolonization, cultural renewal, and Indigenous resurgence from local to global viewpoints. Graduates pursue diverse career paths in law, business, community initiatives, cultural preservation, and education sectors.

With limited faculty and graduate enrollment, each MA candidate follows a personalized program. Students take three to six graduate courses, often through independent research or enhanced participation in advanced undergraduate classes. Additionally, they must produce a thesis meeting the School of Graduate Studies' standards.

The MA's emphasis on self-directed learning and thesis work demands highly driven candidates with strong independent study capabilities and exceptional writing proficiency. Applicants must secure faculty supervision before applying, as the department doesn't consider unsupervised applications. Prospective supervisors may require qualifications beyond standard graduate school admission criteria.
