The Creative Writing MFA program leverages its prime location in Toronto, a global hub for literature and culture. Designed to foster community engagement, the curriculum connects students with acclaimed Canadian and international authors who serve as workshop leaders, mentors, and guest speakers. A unique collaboration with Harbourfront's International Festival of Authors includes annual Master Classes featuring visiting writers. Winter sessions cover specialized topics like novel composition, writing pedagogy, and financial aspects of authorship. Through our alliance with the Eden Mills Writers' Festival, MFA candidates secure annual performance slots. The downtown Speakeasy reading series occurs monthly, while the Parkdale Project teaching practicum allows students to lead writing workshops for middle schoolers at Parkdale Public School or conduct solo sessions with high school students at Parkdale Collegiate. Playwriting students benefit from script readings and vocal training workshops to enhance their performance skills. Partnerships with the Humber School for Writers, Humber College, and Toronto theaters create exceptional volunteer and professional development opportunities for MFA candidates.
