The Environment, Food, and Communities specialization explores sociological perspectives on human-environment relationships. This concentration examines diverse topics including natural resource management, sustainable food systems, and equitable community development.
Students in this specialization will employ various research methodologies, particularly comparative and historical analysis. The curriculum emphasizes how structural factors like power dynamics, cultural influences, and intersecting identities (including class, gender, race, and ethnicity) shape these societal-ecological systems.

Our program enables you to apply theoretical knowledge and research skills to contemporary social challenges through four specialized tracks: environment/food/communities; work/organization; crime/social control; and identities/social inclusion.
