The PhD Program in Rural Studies provides in-depth exploration of rural communities' and regions' socio-cultural and environmental sustainability. Our faculty conduct both theoretical research and practical applications across Canada and globally, drawing expertise from diverse fields such as urban planning, landscape design, political sciences, public policy, human geography, continuing education, and media studies. To earn the doctorate, candidates must complete 2.00 graduate-level course credits, followed by composing and defending a qualifying examination paper, then developing and publicly defending an original research thesis. The curriculum is structured for completion within 12 academic terms.
