This collaborative program between the Department of Human Health and Nutritional Sciences and the Department of Biomedical Sciences offers students a comprehensive, interdisciplinary foundation in human and animal health. The curriculum explores functional aspects (biochemistry and physiology), structural components (anatomy and histology), and paraclinical disciplines (epidemiology and pharmacology). Graduates gain excellent preparation for advanced studies or professional training across diverse health-related careers, including clinical practice, business, government work, research, and education. Students can customize their learning experience through elective courses focused on specific health and disease topics. For elective recommendations, consult the Faculty Advisor for this major.
Furthermore, this program partially fulfills current admission requirements for Ontario medical schools (prospective medical students should verify specific school requirements) and provides preparation for the DVM program at the Ontario Veterinary College.
Some courses within the Bio-Medical Science Major incorporate live animals or animal tissues for instructional purposes, which enrolled students must acknowledge. All animal use complies with Ontario's Animals for Research Act (1980), the Canadian Council on Animal Care's Guidelines for the Care and Use of Experimental Animals, and the University of Guelph's Animal Care Policies.
