The Creative Writing Major aims to equip students with the skills to develop into socially conscious writers and creative practitioners. To achieve this, the program encourages students to address environmental concerns and social justice themes through artistic expression. Learners also develop comprehensive literary knowledge, allowing them to critically assess how their creative work interacts with, transforms, or challenges established literary conventions. This fusion of literary analysis and creative application fosters distinctive artistic growth.
Throughout their studies, majors experiment with three writing styles, master two, and produce a refined portfolio in one genre, while minors develop proficiency in two forms. Upon completing the program, graduates will possess the ability to produce innovative, engaging creative pieces by mastering diverse techniques and forms across multiple genres.
