UFV's Bachelor of Arts program with a French major, minor, or extended minor equips students with fluent conversational abilities and strong writing skills in French. With intimate class settings, instructors who are native speakers, and chances to study or work throughout Canada or overseas, students achieve complete language mastery while exploring diverse francophone cultures. The French curriculum at UFV emphasizes building proficiency across all communication domains: reading, writing, speaking, listening, and interaction. Students pursuing a French major develop advanced fluency, enhancing their French writing, reading, and listening capabilities. During the initial two years, coursework covers intermediate French subjects including composition, cultural studies, conversational practice, and media analysis.
The final two years involve advanced study of French composition, conversation techniques, translation, linguistic structures, and literary works. Fourth-year students can participate in an optional immersion experience through UFV's exchange partnership with Université Laval. Additional opportunities exist for domestic and international study or work placements. Completing the French major requires 21 lower-division credits and 32 upper-division credits. Detailed program specifications are available in the UFV Academic Calendar.
