Enhance your critical thinking, reading, and writing abilities — competencies highly valued by employers across diverse sectors including marketing, business administration, education, journalism, and research through UFV's Bachelor of Arts in English. This program equips you with the capacity to express sophisticated concepts and research outcomes while developing expertise in textual analysis and interpreting significant literary works across eras. During your initial two years, you'll examine and evaluate diverse literary works from cultures and historical periods that capture your interest. Options include immersing yourself in creative writing's demanding artistry, tracing theater and drama's historical progression, or studying English language structure and application. In your final two years, you'll refine your analytical, writing, and research capabilities. More meaningful connections with faculty and classmates emerge through seminar discussions and peer writing evaluations. Writing and rhetoric classes investigate language as an instrument by exploring semantic nuances and English usage patterns. B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent.
A minimum grade of C+ in English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 (see Note) and a minimum of a B average in two additional Approved Grade 12 courses.
Prerequisites for ENGL 105 or CMNS 125.
One of the following:
Completion of a minimum of 30 credits in courses numbered at the 100 level and above, with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 on all credits attempted.
Completion of a minimum of nine credits at the 100 level and above, transferable to a degree program, with a minimum GPA of 3.00 on all credits attempted.
Completion of a post-secondary career or technical diploma (minimum of two years post-secondary credit) from a recognized Canadian or International post-secondary institution, with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 (equated to the UFV grading scheme), calculated on all courses taken.
Completion of a three- or four-year Bachelor's degree from a recognized Canadian or International institution, with a minimum GPA of 2.00 (equated to the UFV grading scheme).
Students who have attended or are currently attending a post-secondary institution, have fewer than 30 credits applicable for BA entrance at the time they apply for admission, and have a minimum GPA of 2.00 on all post-secondary courses attempted, may be considered for admission based on secondary school requirements.
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) IBT score of 88 with no section below 20, or paper-based score of 570 with a TWE (essay) score of 4.5 or higher.
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Academic format score of at least 6.5., with no band score less than 6.0.
MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery) score of at least 85.
CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language) score of at least 70.
