UFV's Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Care (BA CYC) is a four-year degree program designed to equip you with the expertise needed to work as a professional in child and youth care. You'll learn to offer guidance, assistance, and support to young individuals and families navigating emotional and physical difficulties. The curriculum begins by exploring developmental stages and social skills as foundations for therapeutic relationship-building, while addressing challenges faced by children and adolescents with social or developmental struggles. With core classes scheduled in afternoons and evenings, the BA CYC program accommodates working professionals in human services who want to advance their careers while applying new skills directly in their workplaces. During your third and fourth years, you'll complete two supervised practicum placements, allowing you to implement your learning while receiving mentorship from seasoned practitioners. Upon graduating with your BA in Child and Youth Care, you'll be prepared for diverse roles including case evaluation, intervention strategies, counseling services, advocacy work, policy creation, and comprehensive practice across various agencies. Graduates may also continue their education in related disciplines such as social work, public administration, criminal justice, or advanced child and youth care studies.
