The Indigenous Studies in Kinesiology (ISK) program aims to familiarize students, faculty, and staff with Indigenous perspectives on health and wellness while offering a thorough examination of the diverse social, cultural, historical, and economic influences affecting health in Indigenous populations.

Through collaboration with Indigenous communities, ISK seeks to establish an interdisciplinary research environment where students, academics, and community experts jointly investigate connections between Indigenous physical traditions, exercise, and holistic wellbeing. Initiatives in this field employ community-centered methods that leverage local assets to generate culturally appropriate and meaningful insights.

Qualification Requirements

The program is governed by the general requirements for the PhD degree as laid out by the Faculty of Graduate Studies policies and procedures. In addition to the Faculty of Graduate Studies' provisions, the School of Kinesiology normally requires a thesis-based master's degree in Human Kinetics, Physical Education, Kinesiology, or other related fields of study, with a minimum of 76% (B plus ) overall for admission.

All students must have an individual faculty member who agrees during the application process to serve as the student's supervisor.

IELTS - A minimum overall band score of 7.0 is required with a minimum score of 6.5 in each component.
TOEFL IBT - 96 for the internet-based exam with minimum component scores of reading - 23, listening -23, writing - 24 , speaking - 26
