Our program immerses students in independent research while expanding their engagement with a chosen Geography specialization. Research opportunities span these key sub-disciplines: Biogeography, Climatology, Economic Geography, Environmental Sustainability, Feminist Geography, GIS, Geomorphology, Historical Geography, Hydrology & Glaciology, Indigenous Geographies, Political Geography, Social/Cultural Geography, and Urban Studies.
The PhD curriculum offers adaptable, research-focused study guided by student interests. Candidates from diverse academic backgrounds receive mentorship from leading experts in geographical sciences, human geography, and computational geography. Graduates develop specialized knowledge for careers across academia, government agencies, private industry, or non-profit sectors through their focused research training.
