The Health, Outdoor, and Physical Education (HOPE) program adopts a multidisciplinary method for instruction and study, focusing on advancing active lifestyles and outdoor education. Grounded in principles of social equity, HOPE employs:

The HOPE curriculum features courses with interconnected themes covering health advocacy, nutrition awareness, psychological wellness, sociocultural perspectives on fitness and wellbeing, ecological connections, outdoor learning, leadership development, immersive education, active lifestyles, movement studies, game-based instruction, fundamental movement skills, and equitable teaching practices promoting fairness and inclusion.

Qualification Requirements

Master's degree with high standing in a relevant educational discipline,

2. Three letters of recommendation
3. Evidence of English language proficiency
4. Permanent Resident Card (both sides), when applicable

The Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies establishes the minimum admission requirements common to all applicants, usually a minimum overall average in the B plus range (76% at UBC).

IELTS - A minimum overall band score of 6.5 is required with a minimum score of 6.0 in each component.
TOEFL IBT - 92 for the internet-based exam with minimum component scores of 22 (reading, listening, writing, speaking). TOEFL PBT - 580
