Within the Chemistry department, faculty members, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, undergraduates, and staff collaborate in a supportive academic setting to address critical global challenges in energy, health, and sustainability.
The department's research spans diverse disciplines such as applied chemistry, synthetic chemistry, biochemistry, environmental chemistry, analytical chemistry, materials science, chemical physics, and computational chemistry.
Our graduate program guarantees all admitted students a competitive stipend. PhD candidates receive full tuition coverage through comprehensive funding packages that incorporate Teaching Assistantships (TA) and Graduate Research Assistantships (GRA).
State-of-the-art facilities support over 500 graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and faculty members. Our department boasts some of the most modern and well-equipped research spaces across North America.
Applicants for a master's degree program must hold the academic equivalent of a four-year bachelor's degree from UBC with: a minimum overall average in the B+ grade range (76-79% at UBC) in third-year level and above courses; or academic standing with at least 12 credits of third- or fourth-year courses in the A grade range (80% or higher at UBC) in the field of study; or applicants who have a four-year bachelor's degree, or its academic equivalent, which does not meet the requirements stated above, but who have had significant formal training and relevant professional experience to offset such deficiencies, may be granted admission on the recommendation of the appropriate graduate program or faculty and approval of the Dean of the College of Graduate Studies.
