Discover the evolution of museum collections, examine museums' societal impact, discuss collection ownership and repatriation issues, and investigate the intricate connections between museums and the cultures that produced their artifacts. This program provides instruction in museum practices while offering engaging ways to study diverse aspects of human civilization.
While there isn't a dedicated Museum Studies Major, students can specialize in Anthropology while concentrating on Museum and Visual Anthropology, exploring contemporary approaches to artifact preservation, exhibition design (including digital media applications), and the nuanced history of museum acquisitions.
Students pursuing this specialization examine the development of museum collections, consider museums' public responsibilities, engage with debates about cultural property rights, and analyze the dynamic interactions between institutions and source communities.
Available within Anthropology degree programs (Major, Honours, or Minor), this concentration equips students with museum-related skills while enabling them to investigate human societies through the Anthropology Department's cutting-edge research and instruction.
