The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (previously called the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology) launched its course-based master's training program in the 1992-93 fall semester. This curriculum aims to build expertise in assessing, preventing, treating, and managing speech-related issues including articulation, fluency, voice, resonance, and language disorders, along with core audiology practices focused on identifying, evaluating, and rehabilitating individuals with hearing impairments.
Note that this program doesn't prepare students for audiologist roles. Instead, it offers the academic foundation and clinical training needed to meet SLP certification standards set by provincial and national professional bodies.
Program graduates should possess understanding of: learning theories; typical speech, hearing, and language development; causes and perpetuating factors of communication disorders; and rehabilitation approaches for addressing speech and language challenges across all age groups.
