Our thesis-focused master's and doctoral programs provide students with an interdisciplinary research setting that fosters innovation and academic distinction. This frequently manifests as joint thesis projects involving our pioneering basic and clinical research faculty, enabling unique, world-leading research opportunities unavailable elsewhere. The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology offers Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree programs in Laboratory Medicine and Pathology. For thesis-oriented MSc and PhD candidates, research can be conducted within the General Program or through one of three specialized tracks: Molecular Pathology, Analytical and Environmental Toxicology, and Biopreservation. The department also provides course-based and practicum-focused MSc programs.
The Department's minimum admission requirements are a baccalaureate degree with an admission GPA of at least 3.0 on the 4-point scale from the University of Alberta, or an equivalent qualification and standing from a recognized institution.
English language requirement:
internet-based TOEFL score of 95 with at least 21 per section; or
IELTS (Academic) score of 7.0 with at least 6 on each band; or
PTE (Academic) score of 65 with a minimum band score of 60; or
CAEL score of 70 with at least 70 on each subtest.
The application deadlines: May 15 for September admission, September 15 for January admission, January 15 for May admission, March 15 for July admission.
