The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering provides advanced degree programs (MEng, MSc, and PhD) for graduates from accredited institutions.
Graduate students in Electrical and Computer Engineering can collaborate with faculty advisors across twelve specialized research fields. While each student pursues a concentrated study area, much of the research spans multiple disciplines. This approach exposes students to diverse aspects of electrical engineering, computer engineering, and engineering physics. The department's research specialties encompass: biomedical engineering; communication systems; computer engineering; control systems; electromagnetic and microwave technologies; power systems; integrated circuit design; micro/nano-scale devices; photonics and plasma studies; signal/image analysis; software engineering with AI applications; and solid-state electronics.

Qualification Requirements
The Department's minimum requirements for admission to the MEng or MSc programs are an undergraduate degree with an admission GPA of at least 3.0 on the 4- point scale from the University of Alberta, or an equivalent qualification and standing from a recognized institution. The admission GPA will be calculated on the last 60 units of graded coursework completed, or on the equivalent of the last two years of full-time graded coursework.

Where applicable, applicants must provide proof of English Language Proficiency.
