The Rehabilitation Science PhD (PhD RS) program prepares aspiring researchers to generate, synthesize, and implement knowledge that enhances the wellbeing of individuals with health challenges and disabilities. This doctoral program equips students with the skills to comprehend rehabilitation science's theoretical frameworks, pinpoint gaps in current knowledge, and develop research studies to address those gaps. Potential candidates include rehabilitation professionals (occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, audiologists), medical specialists (physiatrists, orthopedic doctors), engineers focused on rehabilitation technologies and assistive devices, as well as those interested in healthcare ethics, policy, Indigenous health, rehabilitation law, clinical services, lifespan development, or spinal conditions, among other areas.
