Studying computer games encompasses developing real-time systems for strategic gameplay (like traditional board and card games) alongside creating solutions for the commercial gaming sector (collaborating with industry leaders like BioWare and Inflexion). While we're driven by showcasing cutting-edge technologies through gaming applications, our research extends broadly, impacting fields ranging from robotics to civil engineering and bioinformatics. Our academic programs and research initiatives span multiple domains, including Artificial Intelligence, Database Systems, Game Development, Machine Learning, Robotics, Software Engineering, Human-Machine Interfaces, Bioinformatics, Network Communications, Algorithm Design, Computer Graphics, Visual Computing, Software Infrastructure, HCI, Internet Technologies, and Multimedia Systems.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants for the Ph.D. in Computing Science must have an M.Sc. degree in Computing Science or a related field. Deficiencies must be addressed by taking appropriate undergraduate courses. A 3.0 GPA is typically the minimum GPA for acceptance in an MSc or PhD program. However, we may consider slightly lower GPAs in exceptional circumstances or due to small discrepancies in international GPA conversion rates. Meeting the 3.0 GPA minimum requirement does not guarantee admission. Our department admissions process is highly competitive and the Admissions Committee often selects students with a 3.5 GPA or higher. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT, in-person or special at-home edition) - A minimum TOEFL score of 100 with a minimum score of 21 on each of the individual skill areas (internet-based), or equivalent. Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS - Academic) - A minimum overall band score of 7.0 with a minimum score of 6.5 on each band
