Our program provides training in multiple widely-spoken languages that students can choose as their primary or secondary focus within a Bachelor of Secondary Education degree. Each language specialization focuses not just on fundamental communication skills, but also cultivates knowledge and respect for the language's cultural heritage and historical context. Teaching represents a profound vocation, and we're committed to shaping educators who will leave a lasting impression on their students. Through our Faculty of Education's Secondary Education curriculum, you'll gain the skills to inspire curiosity and share knowledge across various subjects with middle and high school learners (grades 7-12). The program lets you select two concentration areas - a primary and secondary focus - enabling you to follow your interests and tailor your educational journey.
The Secondary Education curriculum features two practical teaching components: a five-week Introductory Professional Term (IPT) and a more intensive nine-week Advanced Professional Term (APT). Students generally teach their primary subject area during both terms. While typically structured as a four-year course, this degree also accommodates those pursuing it after completing another undergraduate program. Graduates will qualify for Alberta teaching certification upon successful completion.
