Our program provides training in multiple widely-spoken languages that students can choose as a primary or secondary focus within a Bachelor of Secondary Education degree. Each language specialization focuses not just on fundamental communication skills, but also cultivates deep knowledge of the language's cultural heritage and historical context. Teaching represents a profound vocation, and we're committed to shaping educators who will leave an enduring impact on their students. Through our Faculty of Education's Secondary Education curriculum, you'll gain the skills to inspire curiosity and share knowledge across various subjects with middle and high school learners (grades 7-12). The program lets you select two concentration areas - a primary and secondary focus - enabling you to tailor your educational journey to your interests.
The Secondary Education curriculum features two practical teaching components: a five-week Introductory Professional Term (IPT) and a more intensive nine-week Advanced Professional Term (APT). Students typically instruct in their primary subject area during both terms. While designed as a four-year course of study, this program also accommodates those pursuing it as a post-degree qualification. Graduates become eligible for Alberta teaching certification upon successful completion.
