This program examines the connections between legal systems, political structures, and societal dynamics, as well as interactions between citizens and government. Students investigate criminal activity and its causes, legal development processes, and how legislation and unlawful acts intersect with social equity and disparity concerns. Our interdisciplinary method enables students to examine various dimensions of jurisprudence, criminality, and fairness. A key emphasis of our curriculum involves analyzing the roles of gender, socioeconomic status, and cultural background. Grasping how these elements influence legal frameworks, criminal patterns, and systemic prejudice is crucial for tackling significant challenges within Canada's judicial framework. Augustana operates as a compact academic community situated in Camrose, Alberta, approximately 60 minutes from Edmonton. This liberal arts and sciences institution hosts slightly more than 1,000 domestic and international students. Augustana delivers academic programs in a close-knit environment featuring typical class sizes of 22 students. The academic term consists of an intensive three-week single-course period followed by an 11-week semester with a maximum of four courses. This structure allows for concentrated research opportunities, study abroad programs, and hands-on learning experiences while simultaneously decreasing academic pressure and course demands.
