A geography and environmental studies program equips students with skills to address intricate challenges at the intersection of human societies and natural systems, blending academic knowledge with practical problem-solving approaches.
As part of the Geography and Environment Department (GENV), you'll explore pressing global concerns such as climate crises, biodiversity loss, ecosystem disruption, urban expansion, socioeconomic disparities, and sustainable growth.
Our interdisciplinary GENV curriculum draws from multiple academic domains within two key faculties: Social Science and Humanities (FHSS) and Natural and Applied Sciences (FNAS). This integrated approach fosters comprehensive insights into cross-disciplinary challenges, expanding future career prospects. The university's unique location near diverse ecosystems - including freshwater, mountainous, coastal, and island environments, alongside urban, rural, and farming landscapes - offers exceptional fieldwork opportunities in environmental conservation, sustainable development, and community engagement. Our state-of-the-art Geographic Information Systems (GIS) facilities deliver cutting-edge technical training. You'll benefit from faculty expertise spanning ecological rehabilitation, sustainable farming, marine sciences, spatial ecology, environmental chemistry, urban planning, resource conservation, geographical studies, and geospatial technologies. GENV faculty members actively contribute to local and international initiatives through academic research and practical applications, demonstrating leadership in environmental stewardship and human welfare.
